Oral Health Promotion :: Infant Oral Mutilation Materials
The Dentaid IOM Action Group has been working very hard to collate information to enable anyone who is interested to learn more about the practice of Infant Oral Mutilation. We have researched books and articles referring to this practice dating from 1905 to the present day and produced two information documents:
1. An Overview of Infant Oral Mutilation covering its practice, geographical distribution, techniques, morbidity and mortality, followed by a discussion on how a combative strategy might be designed, taking into account the experiences of previous workers.
The Dentaid IOM Document is available to download here.
2. A chronological analysis of the literature reviewed, giving full references, details of the aims and conclusions of each study and an indication as to the possible relevant importance of each one. This will be updated periodically as other articles become available. If you know of relevant papers which are not mentioned in the IOM Literature Analysis, please contact Rosemary Longhurst at rosemary@dentaid.org.
The Dentaid IOM Literature Analysis is available to download here.
We are looking for people who may be able to take on an elective project or who are interested in doing some further research into the practice of IOM within the IOM affected countries in Eastern Africa. We are also seeking to start some research into the practice and prevalence of IOM in the UK.
