Oral Health Promotion :: Oral Health Promotion
Oral Health Promotion is one of Dentaid’s four major strategic priorities for improving oral health for disadvantaged communities around the world.
Description - Dentaid supports and initiates programmes which enable people to increase control over and improve their own oral health. This may include educational and preventive programmes. Such programmes are planned efforts to build supportive public policies, create supportive environments, strengthen community action, develop personal skills or re-orientate health services in the pursuit of oral health goals.
General activities and philosophy
Dentaid's major efforts in this area will be concentrated upon four specific programmes; Fluoride Gel Programme, Toothpaste Dispenser Programme, Infant Oral Mutilation Strategic Plan and Dentaid's School Oral Health Programme. We continue to develop new oral health promotion ideas and programmes. In addition, Dentaid will continue its existing work encouraging and aiding the development of culturally appropriate oral health promotion materials. As appropriate, Dentaid will also distribute these and other oral health promotion resources like toothbrushes, toothpaste etc to oral health programmes. Finally Dentaid will also continue to distribute and promote Bright Bites materials, with a possible 2nd edition in the future.

Dentaid is involved in a number of direct programmes in oral health promotion. Consistent with Dentaid’s mid-stream and up-stream approaches (Our Strategy), these include a balance of “on the ground” activities and innovative projects to improve the success of oral health promotion programmes globally.
