Dentaid is the leading specialist oral health charity working to improve oral health in middle and low-income countries. In the last eleven years, Dentaid has assisted or helped establish nearly 200 oral health projects in over 50 countries.

As well as running its own programmes, Dentaid exists to assist and encourage governments and NGOs (non-governmental organisations) to implement effective and appropriate oral health activities and strategies.

By being specifically focused on oral health, Dentaid can employ specialist staff and has built up a huge expertise and experience in this field of healthcare. Whether you represent one small project in one village in a low income country or a sovereign government wishing to design and implement a national oral health strategy, Dentaid has the skills, expertise and resources to help you make an effective and appropriate intervention to improve oral health for the community you wish to serve.

Oral health provision is a complex issue.  Profound improvements can be made to the lives of large communities through improved oral health. Poor oral health is regularly cited as one of the top ten health issues affecting quality of life in middle and low-income countries.By implementing appropriate oral health strategies and care, large communities can be relieved of debilitating pain and suffering in a very short time span, while their long-term health can be improved enormously through oral health prevention programmes.

Unfortunately, the great majority of oral health interventions made in middle and low-income countries have proven expensive, unsustainable and are consistently shown to have had an almost completely negligible effect upon the overall oral health of the community it is trying to serve. This is almost always due to poor planning, pre-conceived ideas about oral health provision and absence of needs assessment. Dentaid is here to help you ensure your programme is appropriate, cost-effective and brings the maximum improvement possible to the oral health of the community you are trying to serve.
