The Country
Cambodia is one of the poorest countries in the World and relies heavily on foreign aid. It is burdened with the legacy of decades of conflict. The oral health record for Cambodia is poor, yet recently there have been some positive signs that this issue is starting to be addressed. However serious lack of resources and funding is making turning the vision into reality very hard.

The Need
Until recently Cambodia has only had one dental school, the faculty of Odontostomatology which is publicly funded. International University has responded to the shortage of well trained work force in the health sector by establishing a range of faculties including medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing and public health. The cost of running a dental school far exceeds the income from student fees yet the university is reluctant to raise them as many of the student struggle to cover the existing costs.

The Project
The overall aim of this Dentaid project is to build the capacity and improve the training facilities of the International University Faculty of Dentistry. Improved facilities will lead to an improvement in the quality of both training for the students and low cost dental care that the faculty can offer to those  for whom dental care is normally beyond reach. The ultimate aim is to encourage a general improvement in the overall level of oral health care in the population of Cambodia as a whole.

Objectives of the project
To provide the faculty of dentistry with vital equipment and thereby improving the teaching standards and levels of care that is can achieve. The new clinic will be able to treat over 1000 patients per week. The government has encouraged the development of International
University as a provider of education in the health sector to help meet the needs in the
community. There is however currently insufficient finance available to realise these
ambitions.

Dentaid urgently needs to find a group, society or individual willing to sponsor this project and thus revolutionise the oral health care training of future dentists and affordable health care for the poor population served by the university. The funding will make a clear and very significant difference to the ability of International University to fulfill its role.

Procurement, modification, refurbishment, crating and shipping to Cambodia Total £7,110
