Activities :: Recycle your unwanted mobile phones

Did you know there are an estimated 90 million unused mobile phones in the homes and the workplaces of people throughout Britain? Are you one of the many people that owns one? By donating your old or unused mobiles to Dentaid you can help us raise funds for our work.

Dentaid is working with ‘Recycle Appeal’ to turn unwanted mobiles phones into much needed funds for the charity. Not only will you be fundraising for Dentaid but you will also be helping to protect the environment. Mobile phones contain many dangerous substances that need to be disposed of in a controlled manner, for example cadmium, lead, brominated flame retardants and beryllium. Recycle Appeal dispose of your old mobile phones safely and efficiently.

Dentaid’s chief executive Luke Wordley commented, “Recycling mobile phones is a new idea for us and one we hope will be very successful. Not only does it give us the opportunity to raise funds but also an opportunity to protect the environment. Currently only 20% of unused mobiles are recycled in the UK and so we hope that our supporters will embrace this exciting new initiative.”

To participate in this eco-friendly fundraiser, simply send your unwanted mobile phones or PDA’s directly to Dentaid. Why not look around your house and see how many you can find? You could also encourage work colleagues to bring old mobiles to work on a specific day and send them all to Dentaid.

The funds that Dentaid receive will go towards their vital work in needy communities. Dentaid aim to empower communities to improve oral health through education, training and the promotion of good oral health. You can help us change the way the world smiles.
