Dentaid has conducted lectures and made specialist presentations to well over a thousand dental professionals at various events and national conferences. Again, this has focused upon encouraging and educating UK dental professionals to make more appropriate responses to oral health need in middle and low income countries. A particular Dentaid campaign this year has been to educate dentists on the potential pitfalls and damage caused by inappropriate volunteering activities. There is growing evidence that ill-thought through short-term volunteering is actually having a detrimental effect upon the development and delivery of indigenous dental services in many countries. During the year, Dentaid has written and had published a number of articles on this issue in the dental press and given specialist lectures on the subject at national dental conferences.

 

 

More than ever, Dentaid is fulfilling a global role as a source of advice and information to non-dental charities and health organisations around the world interested or involved in setting up and running oral health programmes.
