The official opening of our County Durham Hub
We used our 30th anniversary celebrations to officially launch our newest dental hub, based in County Durham.
A dedicated mobile unit and staff will be based there to travel to locations across the North East. We’ll be providing advice to vulnerable people across County Durham, Tyne and Wear, Northumberland and North Yorkshire who face barriers to accessing regular dental care.
The hub officially opened at the start of June with clinics in York and South Shields, visiting people who are experiencing homelessness and those in recovery from alcohol and drug addiction.
Volunteers' Week with BrightBites
Our BrightBites oral health education programme held a big day of sessions across Southampton to help children learn more about oral health and help them to build healthier habits.
Volunteers from Dentaid and our project partners Denplan visited 12 primary schools and EYFS settings in the city on a single day on June 3rd, delivering lessons to more than 1,200 children in all.
The sessions cover toothbrushing, teeth names and functions, sugar awareness and the importance of regular dental appointments with every child getting a toothbrush and toothpaste to take home with them.
The day forms an important part of our goal in reaching more than 500,000 children nationwide through BrightBites by July 2028.
Miles for Smiles turns 5
As well as marking 30 years of Dentaid, 2026 is a special occasion for one of our much-loved fundraising events. Miles for Smiles, organised by Dentsply Sirona, returned for the 5th year on June 5th with the main walk taking place at their head offices in Weybridge in Surrey.
Those taking part covered 13 miles, with stops for sightseeing, animal-watching and drinks along the route, which wound through the beautiful Surrey Downs.
Alongside the walk in Surrey, alternative walks took place in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Inverness to allow more people to come together and support vulnerable people in need of dental care.
We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part for their fundraising and walking efforts – we hope you all had a wonderful time!
30th celebrations across the UK
Our 30th anniversary allowed us to not just reflect on our work and celebrate the lives transformed through dental care in that time, but
As well as our visits to the north, special clinics took place in Gorleston and Norwich in Norfolk, in Kingston in London and in Bournemouth providing care and advice to people experiencing homelessness, harm, poverty and abuse.
We honoured dentists and dental nurses who worked on those clinics for their work in providing dental care to those who need it most with special goody bags.
Patients also received oral health packs featuring toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouthwash and interdental brushes.
