Jen – BrightBites volunteer

Hi! My name is Jen and I am a BrightBites volunteer.

I am new to this, but I absolutely love it.

I discovered BrightBites when I was studying for my oral health education qualification last year. When researching information on oral health for children I came across Dentaid The Dental Charity and BrightBites came up.

BrightBites was just what I was looking for! I wanted to educate children on oral health but I wasn’t sure how to get involved. I got in touch with Dentaid and the BrightBites team and was put in touch with the lovely Jess, who has supported me in visiting several local schools and nurseries. The supplies for the children and their classrooms are brilliant. The children love taking their new toothbrush and toothpaste home to show their grown-ups.

I enjoy talking to the children about how to brush their teeth and the importance of visiting the dentist regularly. Just teaching them the basics of twice daily brushing, for 2 minutes at a time is so important as some children have never been shown how to brush properly before.

The children love playing dentist on the giant teeth models I take along with me. They can brush the giant teeth and check them with mirrors like a dentist would for at a dental check-up.

I am proud to say I have visited over 260 children so far this year and am keen to visit many more.
