The best thing about being a BrightBites educator is that I make a difference in their lives. Some of the kids in the schools don’t even have a toothbrush and toothpaste, so giving them these items really makes a difference. 

 Once they use the mouth model to practice brushing techniques, you can really see an immediate improvement, especially when they realise the importance of brushing the molars at the back. It sounds cliche, but it is rewarding when you see how motivated the young children are, and how they take on board what you say. I think part of this is because I am introduced as a special visitor and the students are not bored of me yet!!!

The responses from the kids are very funny at times. For example, I always say at the end ” Has anyone got any questions about toothbrushing or teeth?” Lots of hands go up, and the kids start giving loads of statements and not questions! We hear ” My mum drinks coke and does not brush her teeth”  “My brother has bad breath” etc
