Ken completes Camino Trek
Ken Finlayson has completed the Camino Trek in memory of his son James. The challenge saw Ken hiking across northern Spain facing searing temperatures and tough terrain before finishing the route at Santiago de Compostela where he lit a candle in James’ memory. The sponsored hiked has raised £56,670 for Dentaid The Dental Charity so far – and donations are still coming in.
This will help to fund clinics on a new charity dental unit that will be used to provide outreach dental care for people experiencing homelessness and other under-served communities.“I tragically lost my son James on the 28th of August 2022, he was only 25,” said Ken. “To commemorate his life, I am doing the Camino Trek. James was very, very special to me and my family and to the many people that knew him. I wanted to raise as much as possible through this walk to help Dentaid, who do wonderful work providing urgent dental treatment to those who need it across the UK.”
After five days of walking Ken reached the famous pilgrimage site on Thursday, July 27th.“I am delighted to report that we reached our destination, and I lit a candle in memory of James this morning at the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela,” added Ken. “Thanks so much to all those who have supported this journey. The level of fundraising has been amazing. We are now well on our way to funding the new mobile clinic which will help thousands of people in the UK with their urgent dental care issues. It’s still not too late to if you haven’t had a chance. Just visit the link – anything you can contribute however big or small would be greatly appreciated”.
