Ken treks for Dentaid The Dental Charity

Dentaid The Dental Charity is honoured that FMC founder Ken Finlayson has chosen to fundraise for the charity in memory of his son.

James sadly died last year at the age of 25 and this summer Ken will complete a trek called the Camino to raise funds in his memory. James was very very special to me and my family and the many people that knew him,” said Ken. “I am trying to raise as much as possible through this walk to help Dentaid The Dental Charity – who do wonderful work – provide more urgent dental treatment for those who need it across the UK.

“To commemorate his life, on the 22nd of July I’m doing a trek called the Camino. This will entail many mid-summer days of walking over hilly, dusty terrain in searing hot temperatures.

“Ultimately I will end up at the Santiago (St James) de Compostela Cathedral in northern Spain and light a candle in his memory.”

Ken has set a fundraising target of £30,000 and is already well on his way to reaching it thanks to the incredible support of his friends, colleagues and the dental industry.

“I am truly amazed at the support that the walk has already had from the dental world and hope many more dentists and dental industry companies will join in too,” added Ken. “James was a very special person and I am so proud to be doing this in his memory.”

“I hope people feel able to donate in this special situation.”

All the funds raised will help the most vulnerable people in our communities access dental care.  Dentaid The Dental Charity provides care for people experiencing homelessness, survivors of abuse, cancer patients, fishing communities, refugees and asylum seekers and people overcoming addictions.

“We are deeply moved that Ken has chosen to fundraise for us in these tragic circumstances,” said Dentaid CEO, Andy Evans. “The response to his fundraising has been wonderful and every penny will help us deliver dental care to the hardest-to-reach groups who have no other access to treatment.”
