Returning to Suffolk
Dentaid The Dental Charity is returning to Suffolk to help more people who are suffering the misery of toothache.
The charity will be visiting Bury St Edmunds on Tuesday 14th and Wednesday 15th March with volunteer dental professionals providing free emergency treatment for people in the local community who have no other access to dental care. The clinics will take place on one of the charity’s mobile dental units and treatments available will include fillings and extractions in addition to oral cancer screening and dental health advice.
The clinics will be held at New Bury Community Centre in Charles Place both days. Patients will be seen from 10am – 4pm. People don’t need appointments and are invited to turn up and wait to be seen. Everyone will be triaged to assess their level of need. Patients are advised to arrive early and be prepared to wait. The charity’s team will see as many people as they can but can’t promise to see everyone.
This is Dentaid The Dental Charity’s sixth visit to Suffolk and the charity’s volunteers have helped hundreds of people in the county out of dental pain. At the last visit to Bury St Edmunds long queues formed well before the clinics started.
Anyone planning to attend the clinics is asked to ensure they have eaten breakfast and bring plenty of water as there may be a long wait. Dentaid is asking people only to attend if they meet the criteria of living in the Bury St Edmunds area, are currently experiencing dental pain and have no other way of accessing dental care.
“We are looking forward to returning to Suffolk and helping people in Bury St Edmunds out of dental pain,” said Dentaid CEO Andy Evans. “Previous experience shows us there is huge demand for our charitable dental services and we expect there to be long queues this time too. We do ask people to remember these are volunteers who are giving up their time to try to help those in greatest need. We know there are people in the Suffolk community who are suffering from untreated toothache and thanks to our volunteers and the support of the local councils, we will help as many people as we can.”
Dentaid The Dental Charity has a fleet of mobile dental units which travel the UK providing outreach dental care for people who struggle to access treatment, including those experiencing homelessness, asylum seekers and refugees, head and neck cancer patients, fishing communities and survivors of domestic abuse.
