Septodont partnership with our charity
Dentaid the Dental Charity and Septodont have launched a new partnership to provide dental care for people experiencing homelessness and other under-served communities in the south east of England.
Together they are establishing a regional hub with a new charity dental unit that will visit hostels, community centres, soup kitchens and services for hard-to-reach groups.
Dentaid The Dental Charity has seen huge growth in demand for its services across the UK but particularly in the south east of England. This year the charity has launched new projects in Southend, Canterbury, Dover, Chatham, Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells in addition to its regular clinics in Hastings, Suffolk and Thanet.
The regional hub will be based at Septodont’s head office in Maidstone that will also host two new Dentaid The Dental Charity members of staff. The new dental unit will be used for the charity’s clinics across the region reducing travelling time, expenses, fuel costs and environmental impact.
The partnership has been made possible thanks to funding from Septodont which enabled Dentaid The Dental Charity to purchase the specially adapted vehicle and establish the hub. Septodont is also supplying the charity with anaesthetics, needles and other consumables that will be used on hundreds of clinics every year.
Since the pandemic, demand for Dentaid The Dental Charity’s work has skyrocketed and in addition to helping rough sleepers and those who are vulnerably housed, the charity also provides outreach dental services for refugees and asylum seekers, survivors of abuse, cancer patients, fishing communities and families experiencing poverty. Volunteer dentists and dental nurses will provide patients with dental screening and oral cancer checks, pain relieving treatments, restorative and preventative care and oral health advice.
“Establishing a hub in the south east of England has been a long held ambition and we are delighted to be working with Septodont whose generosity has made it a reality,” said Dentaid CEO Andy Evans. “Not only have they funded what will become the seventh mobile dental unit to join our fleet, they have given us a base for our services. This means we’ll be able to meet the growing demand for new clinics in this part of the country. The unit will be out every day delivering vital dental service for hard-to-reach groups including many who are rough sleeping or vulnerably housed. We know that dentistry can play an important role in helping people move on to a new chapter in their lives. We’ll be helping people out of immediate pain and helping to restore their confidence and smiles.”
This is Dentaid The Dental Charity’s second regional hub after the first was established in the north of England providing dental care for under-served groups in Yorkshire, Lancashire and Merseyside.
Septodont, the world leader in local dental anaesthetics, is very excited about its new partnership with Dentaid The Dental Charity. Mike Cann, Managing Director of Septodont Ltd said “As Septodont’s UK head office is based in Kent, we wanted to give something back to our local community. Sadly, there is a huge need for dental care amongst those that Dentaid The Dental Charity help and Septodont are delighted and honoured to assist with this amazing charity.”
