City Bridge Dental Winchester Clarendon Way Walk

Winchester dentists to tackle fundraising walk in support of Dentaid

A team of Winchester dentists and dental nurses are pulling on their walking boots to raise money for Dentaid the Dental Charity.

Five members of staff working at City Bridge Dental will be tackling the 26-mile long Clarendon Way walk on June 7th.  The route runs between Salisbury and Winchester cathedrals, running through picturesque countryside and villages in the rolling hills of Wiltshire and Hampshire.

Several members of the team have already completed the journey previously, but this marks the first time that many will have tried to walk the whole distance in the space of a single day.

Money raised from the walk will go to support our work in providing mobile charity clinics to support outreach projects for people who struggle to access dentistry. Our mobile dental surgeries on wheels have been used to provide dental treatments and oral health programmes at foodbanks, places of worship, community centres and public buildings across the UK.

We helped more than 5,100 people last year in the first 12 months of a partnership with NHS Hampshire and Isle of Wight and one of our longest-running charity clinics takes place every month in Winchester itself. Those experiencing homelessness who visit the Trinity Winchester charity can get help from volunteer dentists and dental nurses for a range of oral health issues.

“I feel we take our health and wellbeing for granted, however we are all also aware of the lack of funding and time that dentists have to see patients”, said Zoe Mills, a dental nurse at City Bridge Dental who is among those taking part.

What many people may not consider is how many people are let to slip through the system for years without any examinations or treatment.

“Dentaid is important to me not only because of the vital care it is providing, but how it is helping those patients finally be seen and cared for as they deserve, without bias or judgment.

“I hope that this walk will not only raise money to help provide this care but also raise awareness for the amazing team at Dentaid and all the work they do.”

City Bridge Dental are looking to raise £1,000 through the challenge in all.
