Boaz Jardel Rukiga district outreach

Two days of dental outreach were carried out in Kandago and Mparo in the Rukiga district of Uganda on the 19th and 20th of March 2024. These were done to help the people in these areas who don’t have access to dental treatment and were also held in commemoration of World Oral Health Day which is celebrated on March 20th every year.

The outreaches were highly attended with lots of people coming for dental services, especially on the second day in Mparo. To accommodate everyone who came along we worked late into the evening and finished after dark.

It was a tiring but enjoyable two days of service where 217 people were offered dental treatment. We did 162 extractions, 44 fillings, and 11 scalings.

In the spirit of World Oral Health Day and to promote dental and mouth hygiene, on Thursday 21st I visited Shalom Vocational School. This was a follow-up visit to a place we had visited two years ago. We gave an oral hygiene lesson to students after which they all received a toothbrush and toothpaste. 134 students and a staff of 12 all received the goodies and were very happy with the gift. They all promised to take good care of their teeth.

I want to thank Dentaid for organising these dental outreaches and making sure they continue. I would like to thank the team of Ugandan dentists that I worked with in the Rukiga district whose efforts made this activity a success.
