Cambodia is a wonderful country where you can be assured of a warm welcome.  Sadly, events of the last century are still taking their toll and many people live without affordable access to basic services including dental care. Dentaid works with Cambodian based charity One2One to provide basic dental care in prisons, slum areas and poor communities.  Each trip is different and you could be the first dental professional your patients have ever seen.  Our teams provide pain releiving treatments, oral health education projects and fluoride varnish programmes. The first week of the trip is usually spent in and around the capital Phnom Penh before the team travels to projects supported by Dentaid in more remote parts of Cambodia.

FAQ

Conditions in the clinics are very basic.  In some places we use portable dental equipment and chairs and in other clinics we’ll use school desks and  plastic chairs with broom handles as headrests! We work with local dental professionals who are supported by Dentaid to help them reach patients who would have no other acess to dental care.  These are busy clinics and the caries rate among children is very high. Oral health education is critical to our work in Cambodia and the team will help to establish toothbrushing programmes and promote oral health. Our teams often have the opportunity to help with a feeding programme for children living in slum areas and you can visit memorials and Cambodia’s famous temples on your days off.

Terms and conditions

Volunteers are encouarged to fundraise to cover the cost of their trip. Dentaid can give you lots of support to raise the £2250 which pays for  your flight, accommodation, transport, meals on working days, dental supplies and helps to support our ongoing work in Cambodia. Please note; visas, travel insurance and vaccinations are not included and you must arrange these separately. The team will be led by our international clinical director Simon Crewe and you will be invited to a training day ahead of your trip where you will receive lots more information and meet the rest of your team.
